Jan/Feb. 2012 - A year for celebration!
What do we have to celebrate about you may ask? For starters we are alive and kicking. Secondly we do not believe a word they say about doom and gloom. Hoolies have a die-hard positive attitude and for as long as enjoy what we do, that will remain unchanged. The year started off with its usual bang and much excitement was the order of the day seeing all the Vit D dispersed abundantly on staff faces (aka suntans). Africa is Hot baby! Our Retailers did well over Christmas so we are all smiles.
Next up - The Boiler Room where creativity bubbles. The New Adventures range is looking smoking hot. We may share a sneak preview with you shortly so keep checking back. It's expected to hit hungry shop shelves by April 2012.
We end this brief News update here as our air con just misfired and typing any longer may cause a mini flood on our keyboards. For daily chirps be sure to check our Facebook page. It's a riot filled with happy Fans and loads of activity.
September 2011- Safari Range Launch
The biggest news of the month is our new site - yes the one you are floating around on right now. It's brand spanking new and we do hope you enjoy the site.
August has seen the launch of our new Safari Range, the long awaited Shwe Shwe animals and now it's back to the grindstone for us as we work to get the range out to stores. Exciting new ranges to be launched in February 2012. We are sketching, cutting new samples and putting it to our team of top Hooligans. Only the best styles make the grade and eventually get shown to our VIPs, which are, of course, the little Hooligans that run around in our clothing.
The new revamp is "Africa in my Pocket", a novelty range that demands an animal pops out and surprises in the most unusual places. Back in the days we hopped on a plane to go see what Europe was up to. Gone are those days as we focus on our home inspiration and take it to the world. We are very conscious of our carbon footprint so sourcing local fabrics takes hard work. Fabric imports stack warehouses to the brim. Gasps of excitement are heard when we find a local supplier. This also means we design all our own prints. Every animal is hand drawn, and popped either into an allover print, focal print or an embroidery. We look forward to sharing what we have come up with soon. Remember, all the sneak previews are on our fan page on Facebook. Till next time, cheerio.
July 2011 - Shwe Shwe Animals everywhere!
Almost done with the Shwe Shwe animals. What is Shwe Shwe you may ask? Check it out here. We have taken this delightful historic fabric, dyed it and made some smashing wild cuddly animals out of them. Shwe-shwe (or schwe schwe) fabric was introduced to South Africa with German settlers in the 19th century, but over time Xhosa women, who took a liking to the stiff indigo dyed fabric, replaced their animal skin clothes with shwe shwe. It is said to be named after the sound the skirts make when you walk.
June 2011 - Buy with a conscience
So the economy has gone downhill they say? We see opportunities every where! Consumers are tired of mass produced rubbish from China. Human rights abuses are rife and the only thing that matters to large corporations is often their bottom line of profit, at the very expense of children. Child labour is common in China. We have to ask; how can you buy an item of clothing for a child, made by a child? Noooooo! Read the truth behind those labels here: http://www.labourbehindthelabel.org/
